Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) is a known asphyxiant and presents a significant risk to staff using and dispensing it. CSIRO Livestock Industries developed an electronically controlled LN2 Filling Station which provides a monitored, well controlled environment for handling this hazardous material.
With the introduction of the Filling Station, the likelihood of a spill or unplanned release of LN2 resulting in asphyxiation, cold burns, pressure build-up and explosion is remote.
