National Safe Work Australia Week

National Safe Work Australia Week is held annually in the last week of October to raise awareness of workplace safety. The week aims to encourage all working Australians to get involved in and concentrate on safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease.

Safe Work Australia Week Sunday 21 October to Saturday 27 October 2012

In 2012, Safe Work Australia Week will be celebrated from Sunday 21 October to Saturday 27 October 2012.

Putting safety in the spotlight

In its seventh year, the week was celebrated from 23 to 29 October 2011. As part of the week, more than 500 leaders from around Australia registered to become Safety Ambassadors and thousands more took part in activities and events organised by their state or territory authorities.

This year, a new initiative for Safe Work Australia Week was also introduced —the Safety Ambassador of the Year Award. All registered Safety Ambassadors had the opportunity to enter the Safety Ambassador of the Year Award. It is a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their hard work as a Safety Ambassador and their company’s involvement in Safe Work Australia Week.

2011 Safety Ambassador of the Year Award winner announced

Janine Coleman from Macarthur Disability Services in Campbelltown NSW is the winner of the 2011 Safety Ambassador of the Year Award.

Two highly commended awards for Safety Ambassador of the Year have also been announced:

  • Julia Winkler from the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, and
  • Maureen Nunn from the Catholic Schools Office Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

A total of 529 workplace leaders signed on as Safety Ambassadors for Safe Work Australia Week this year and 46 applicants entered the Safety Ambassador of the Year Award.

Submissions were reviewed by a judging panel, chaired by Safe Work Australia CEO Mr Rex Hoy.

Congratulations to Janine Coleman, Macarthur Disability Services and all of the 2011 Safety Ambassadors for participating in Safe Work Australia Week and being dedicated to workplace safety.

Among other things, the winner will receive a return trip for two to Canberra to attend the 7th annual National Safe Work Australia Awards as special guests.
