Safe Work Australia’s statistical reports released in 2021 mark the first time the data reference year includes periods when Australia was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The wide reach of the pandemic and the different public health and economic responses have had varied and complex impacts for persons conducting businesses and undertakings (PCBUs), workers and workplaces.

This document presents some wider contextual information that should be considered when interpreting and comparing Safe Work Australia’s workers’ compensation, fatalities, comparative performance monitoring and return to work data.
