Health monitoring for carbon disulfide
Downloads
This guide helps doctors monitor the health of workers exposed to carbon disulphide.
Pure carbon disulfide (CAS 75-15-0):
-
is a clear, colourless liquid that has a sweet, pleasant smell
-
evaporates quickly at room temperature
-
explodes and ignites easily.
We use impure carbon disulfide in industrial processes. It is:
-
a yellowish liquid with an unpleasant smell like rotten radishes
-
a decomposition product of xanthates used in mining.
We use carbon disulfide in making regenerated cellulose and cellophane. In Australia, we also use it as a poison for feral pigs.
Workers in manufacturing plants using carbon disulfide have a high risk of exposure. People who are near this work also risk exposure.
