This report reviews the European Union’s: 

• European Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) 

• Directive on Vibration (2002/44/EC)  

It looks at the directives’ requirements and how effective they are. 

The report: 

• considers whether a similar regulatory framework could be appropriate for Australia 

• summarises evidence for the health effects caused by exposure to vibration in the workplace 

• identifies gaps in knowledge of the health effects vibration can have on workers.
