Safe Work Australia has published the Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023-2033 Baseline Report, which explores the baseline WHS context for Australia in 2023, the year in which the Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023-2033 (the Strategy) was introduced.

About the Strategy

The Strategy sets a national vision of safe and healthy work for all and provides a platform for improving Australian WHS outcomes over the next decade. It is an important strategic document for WHS stakeholders across the country, providing a unifying vision and goal, and a call to action to tackle persistent and emerging WHS challenges. These challenges include managing psychosocial risks, the rise of artificial intelligence, automation and related technologies, and modern work arrangements including gig work.

About the baseline report

The Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023-2033 Baseline Report presents insights from a range of data sources to illustrate the focus areas for action over the next 10 years. The report also explores a set of measurable targets aimed at driving systemic improvements in WHS outcomes.

The accompanying technical report, About the data, contains further information about the main datasets used in the report. This includes how progress against each target will be measured, an introduction to the crucial evidence needed to build a complete picture of WHS, and guidance about how to interpret the data.
