Top 5 injuries in small businesses

Did you know?

Workers in small businesses are not immune to risk of injury or illness.

Between 2017-18 and 2021-22p*

The top 5 injuries and illnesses recorded for serious claims from small businesses were:

  • Traumatic joint/ligament and muscle/tendon injury (33%)
  • Wounds, lacerations, amputations and internal organ damage (24%)
  • Fractures (16%)
  • Musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases (13%)
  • Mental health conditions (5%)

Between 2017-18 and 2021-22p*

Small businesses showed higher claims than medium to large businesses for:

  • Wounds, lacerations, amputations and internal organ damage
  • Fractures
