Did you know that older workers are over-represented in serious workers’ compensation claims for musculoskeletal injuries?

55–64-year-olds made up 14% of the workforce but accounted for 20% of all serious MSI claims in 2022-23.

Workers at all ages have a right to a safe and healthy work environment. Under the model WHS laws, an employer must prevent MSIs by:

  • identifying the hazards and managing the risks that cause MSIs
  • consulting with workers and others (e.g. health and safety representatives)
  • to manage MSI risks as much as they can.
