Your workers must have supervised, hands-on training in the tasks they'll perform before they start a job.

Train your workers to:

  • perform tasks safely
  • operate machines and equipment safely
  • use and maintain any personal protective equipment, and
  • follow safe work procedures.

Make sure each worker demonstrates that they can:

  • follow the safe work procedures, and
  • perform their work tasks safely and without direct supervision.

Legislated training

The model WHS laws include requirements for workers to complete specified training and assessment before they can undertake certain work or roles, including:

  • first aid training
  • construction induction training (i.e. White Card)
  • high risk work training and assessment
  • asbestos assessment or removal training, and
  • WHS entry permit holder training.

If involved in certain activities, such as construction, handling of chemicals, or heavy machinery operation, you may need to seek further guidance on legislative training requirements from your WHS Regulator.
